Ministerial update

Lucy Frazer MP

Lucy Frazer MP has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for Culture in the “re-focused” Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Frazer takes over from Michelle Donelan MP, who moves to the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s reshuffle has also seen the Department for International Trade join the Business Department, itself broken down, to create a new Department for Business and Trade (DBT), led by Kemi Badenoch MP.

Events industry

The events industry still falls under the remit of the DCMS, although it is expected to have greater crossover with the DBT. VisitBritain and VisitEngland remain listed as Non-Departmental Public Bodies under the DCMS.

Rt. Hon. Stuart Andrew MP

Stuart Andrew MP remains the tourism minister, under which the business events industry sits, although he now carries the full title of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business and Trade, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. He maintains the tourism remit, as well as sport.

The Culture Secretary’s portfolio includes cultural events, such as music.
