Spring Budget update: business visitor rules to be relaxed

Jeremy Hunt

The Government’s has announced that it will make changes to business visitor rules “to make it easier and more attractive to do business in the UK”.

In Section 3.43 of the Spring Budget ‘Red Book’, delivered by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, 15 March, it is noted that changes to these rules will include expanding the range of short-term business activities that can be carried out for periods of up to six months and reviewing permitted paid engagements.

It is believed that in an events context, this will make it easier for non-UK nationals to work in the UK as paid-for speakers, exhibitors, event production crews and so on. These changes will be implemented from Autumn 2023.

In addition, the Government will consider further enhanced provisions linked to negotiations with trade partners, including a wider range of activities.
